PrisonPandemic

In 2020 students and faculty at University of California, Irvine began collecting stories from people incarcerated in state prisons across California. I volunteered to produce the first iteration of the website archive that launched on the first anniversary of the pandemic in 2021, in collaboration with brand designer Genesis Silva, and our development partner Lattimore & Friends.

Since then, the project has been awarded a plethora of grants that expanded the project to the hundreds of carceral facilities in the state, a new iteration of the website (in collaboration with visual designer Xiaoxiao Ma), and an eventual addition to the University of California Library as a special collection archive.

Powerhouse researcher Kristin Turney has published over 100 academic papers over the last 15 years. After we published the last iteration of the PrisonPandemic site together, she asked if I'd create a site for her to make her other work accessible, that didn't feel completely mismatched from the somewhat unconventional (in the academic context) visual design PrisonPandemic.
